Can I claim a taxi ride to work from the train station

Yes. Just get a receipt.
I did it for years between Euston & Southwark Street, 5 days a week. I do NOT use the Undergound; I use black cabs and they've always gone through the books without comment from the accountant. And there's no reason why there should be, either. My all-time favourite Dilbert cartoon, this is: BTW, a Dumpster is a brand of skip, I think. -
There is no reason why you should treat the cab ride any differently from the train journey as far as your expenses go.Originally posted by trsisko View PostIm planning on paying for a taxi ride from the train station to work and back again can I claim expenses on this? Provided that you are attending a temporary workplace under the terms of the HMRC guidance then by all means claim the cab ride. Keep all the receipts to back up your claims.Comment

Why do you think this is any different to claiming the train fare or mileage in a car!?Originally posted by trsisko View PostIm planning on paying for a taxi ride from the train station to work and back again can I claim expenses on this? I cant believe you are asking this question!!!! If its genuinley related to business you can claim pretty much anything....Comment

Define "work". If you are talking about claiming for regular travel to your permanent place of work, then you can't claim it as a business expense without incurring a benefit in kind. If you are talking about claiming for travel to a temporary place of work (e.g. client site) then you can claim without incurring a benefit in kind.Originally posted by trsisko View PostIm planning on paying for a taxi ride from the train station to work and back again can I claim expenses on this? Not quite true - you can claim absolutely anything you like. Whether you can claim it without incurring a benefit in kind is a different ballpark altogether.Originally posted by smalldog View PostI cant believe you are asking this question!!!!
