The JCHR are wise to the Treasury's game

I had an email from them asking if I knew when the JR was likely to take place. I said the Court office had indicated that it probably wouldn't even be listed until after the summer.

I asked why they needed to know, and this was their reply:

"It's important in trying to work out how long the Treasury hope not to send us any substantive information about the Government's position."

Given that the JR probably won't happen until the end of the year/early 2010, that is a heck of a long time for the Treasury to try and stonewall the committee.

Which implies that they have already started stalling and have not responded with the information asked for by the original deadline. For a guess they have refused to provided it on the grounds that it could jeapordise the "upcoming Judicial Review".

Look out for more brown envelopes in the mail if you haven't received yours already.
I haven't received one for 2006/2007 yet. Does that mean they can't touch me for that year, or is there an implication from their earlier investigation in to 2005/2006 that they can look at any subsequent year I used the same scheme?

The Treasury responded within the deadline but did not provide any of the information the committee requested.

Unfortunately, stalling isn't going to help because the JR is unlikely to happen until Q1 2010. Ironically, HMRC aren't helping because they have already asked for an extension to provide the evidence requested by our side, which will only further delay the JR .

I have discussed the JR on several occasions with the committee, and they have already made it clear that they will not accept this as an excuse by the Treasury for not providing the information they have requested.

I suspect it may only be a matter of time before Timms gets hauled up in front of the committee.

Are the commitee meetings open to the public?

Quite possibly. It looks like a fair proportion of their meetings are in an
open forum. We may need to allocate tickets though, as this could be one
                    of the more popular meetings!

As for DR's last comment, am I right in thinking that the Revenue has
asked for a delay in the JR? Are these the same people whose best defence
last time was 'you're late with your application so pay up'?

if it is open to the public I would definitely be interested....how do we find out?
