Hi All,
Remember this is just 1 battle and the war still needs to be won
There are going to be many ups and downs on the way and (hopefully) an election at some point. I think we will get a good result tomorrow and then take it from there
Make sure all those positive letters and information from opposition MP's are kept as a reminder for after the election next year.
Good luck tomorrow. Try not to overdo the bolly afterwards. I'm sure somebody who is there will post on what went on. I certainly hope you get the grant for a hearing tomorrow, but if it doesn't go that way it's not the end of the game by a long way.
Did you mention Cameron sent a letter ? do we have proof or a record of that?

The Clerk will be writing directly to everyone whose MP contacted the Committee to confirm that they are looking into it, and he will also copy this letter to the MPs.
Someone in Cameron's constituency asked him to write to the JCHR. He replied confirming he had done this.
The Committee's first step will be to write to the Treasury asking them to justify why the legislation is compatible with convention rights. They will include the summary of the witness testimonies. This letter and the Treasury's reply will be published on their web site.
Once they have received the Treasury's response, they will then decide on any further action.
No doubt the Treasury will drag their heels responding, as they have done with us, so I would be surprised if there is much progress this side of the summer recess.

Thanks ASB. For someone not directly involved you offer us much support. Tomorrow is one step along the road that has to be taken whoever wins each round. The judge in the PwC hearing stated that whatever his decision he couldn't see it ending up anywhere short of th Luxembourg Court. It puts us in good company.
A win means bolly, a good time, and planning for the next step...a loss means beer, meeting up with some of the group and planning for the next step. Not that different really. The important bit is the final step with vintage bolly on ice

"Tax evasion is easy: it involves breaking the law. By tax avoidance OECD means unacceptable avoidance ... This can be contrasted with acceptable tax planning. What is critical is transparency" - Donald Johnston, Secretary-General, OECD
