If you are sending you are own, then as well as asking the MP to chase them, you might want to include this:
If the Treasury are not able to respond forthwith, please can you ask for an explanation as to why not.
Chase up letter sent to Michael Mates, he usually responds quite quickly so will update when I hear something .....Comment

"Thank you for your most recent letter about the problems caused by section 58 of the finance act.
I am very sorry to hear about the problems in your personal life caused by the stress of dealing with the implications of this legislation. I am concerned about the effects on ordinary families of the retrospective application of tax and interest penalties which you mentioned.
I have therefore written again toe the chancellor about this matter to highlight your situation as an example of the unintended effects this legislation is having. I will be back in touch with you when I hear back from them."
Interesting even a Labour MP is using the word RETROSPECTIVE, I always thought the government termed it as clarify?
Although, call me cynical, but I'm not sure the effect was "unintended". Are the Treasury really so dumb that they wouldn't realise that trying to collect tax+interest on money people earned 8 years ago would end in tears?
At least he gets it though. Retrospective legislation is like shutting the door after the horse has bolted ie. the money has long since gone.Comment

As an aside do those of you who have gone back Ltd. think "our cards are marked" and are you expecting an increased likelyhood of an IR35 inspection. If so what are you doing as I would prefer not to join the PCG, but having some form of inspection/appeal cost insurance might be handy.
If any one does want to reply it might be best to PM me rather than add off-topic comments to this thread unless others think that the information might be useful to everybody.Comment

Have you signed yet?
The Treasury kindly told us that the Scheme had more than 2000 users. We have nearly 200 signatures in 48 hours which is a great achievement for a group of people that don't know each other and have no common representation like a Trade Union. So why have we not found the other 1800 yet? It certainly isn't because they are not interested. Its their money, they are.
So have you sent an email to all your contacts yet? Why not? Its easy. If you do, why not add a personal touch? You can discuss the uncertainties of IR35 and the relative certainty of this scheme and the fact that it was legal at the time you did it (with Counsel opinion) but has since been made illegal all the way back to 1987. Why not mention the interest that has built up?
There is NO reason why all of our families and friends and way beyond (you should see my dog trying to get to grips with email) should be concerned about signing this petition. This is a vindictive attack on a small section of taxpayers with no purpose other than to cover over the tracks of a succession of chronically worded pieces of legislation.Join the No To Retro Tax Campaign Now

Tax Shelters
"Looking back it's the things you didn't do that you regret. Rising taxes will make tax shelters even more valuable. Investors will rue every year's ISA and SIPP allowance missed when the taxman's shovel starts digging even deeper into their affairs."
Peter K Hargreaves, Chief Executive, Hargreaves Lansdown
So, if an ISA or a SIPP is a tax shelter and what we did is use a tax shelter where is the distinction? Are ISA's and SIPPs about to be hit retrospectively?
I asked Peter to sign the Petition.Join the No To Retro Tax Campaign Now

First milestone passed
We have passed the 200 mark, which is significant for the following reason:
When a serious petition closes, usually provided there are 200 signatures or more, officials at Downing Street will ensure you get a response to the issues you raise. Depending on the nature of the petition, this may be from the Prime Minister, or he may ask one of his Ministers or officials to respond.
We will email the petition organiser and everyone who has signed the petition via this website giving details of the Government’s response.
We need many more but it's a great result after just a couple of days.
