Out of curiosity - how long after signing up and confirming - does it take for a name to be added?

How do I sign a petition?
To sign a petition, you will need to give your name, address and email on the form provided. Once you have signed the petition, you will receive an email asking you to confirm that you wish to add your name to the petition by clicking a link. Once you have done this, your name will be added to the petition.

p.s. It should be "thousands of families" not "hundreds"......... can it be edited?

I don't think so. Besides, at most 2000 people used the scheme, so it would be stretching it to claim that thousands are facing financial ruin.

The first 10 will be the hardest. The more that sign the easier it will be to get others to join in.

If you look at the shear number of petitions created every day, this is not even going to get noticed until there are at least 1000 signatures.
