    Any response from Treasury?

I have got 2 letters sent through my MP in Jan & Feb which have still not received any response from the Treasury. I have got receipts from my MP so I know the Treasury are sitting on them. I also wrote to Timms directly and have had no response.

They must be sitting on approaching 100 letters now.

Has anyone had anything back from Timms et al recently?

My MP went straight to Alistair Darling asking him to change Section 58 in
the next budget. This was dated 28 February 2009, and nothing yet.

Got another reply back from Jeremy Corbyn with more sympathy. Still waiting for 2nd reply to my MP's letter from Stephen Timms.

Mr Corbyn even wrote "All the best" in blue biro
'Orwell's 1984 was supposed to be a warning, not an instruction manual'. -

Just received my first CN from HMRC for 2007 (I was with De Graaf for part of 06/07 all of 07/08 and for some of 09 - now I am ltd - phew!)

Even though I was expecting it - it was a shock (only 4 figures - but will be 5 figures for 07/08)

Anyway De Graaf advised to appeal which I will do asap.

My MP David Kidney did reply (on rather garish yellow house of commons headed note paper) and said that he has written to the financial secretary regarding the points I raised :-) I do think he will be rather pre-occupied with dealings relating to Stafford District General Hospital in the next few weeks/months mind you.

Keep up the good work everyone - its the bulldog spirit that will get us through these testing times...

The budget is only a few weeks away now - the Treasury sitting on our letters is strange. We need to keep up the pressure NOW - if you have not written yet, now is a good time....
There's an elephant wondering around here...

Absolutely. No time like the present.

Also, if you fancy bypassing your MP and writing directly to Timms, or even Darling, then I have got a letter you can send.

                .

Really wouldnt hold out too much hope of them changing the legislation in the next budget, would probably draw even more attention to the cock ups made by HMRC and the lies told by Jane Kennedy et al (I'd love to be wrong on this believe me!)

probably more likely to outlaw JR's or appeals to ECHR !!

They've perservered with IR35 for best part of 10 years, which most parties agree is just bad legislation.

Treasury Ministers are appointed to perform a function. If our local MPs consider it appropriate that our letters are forwarded to the Treasury for their response then we can assume that our MPs agree that it falls within the Treasury's job description to respond to them.

As such, surely these people have a duty, responsibility and an obligation to respond to queries raised by the electorate and their consituency MPs? To put this another way, if we took this long to respond to an enquiry within any of our contracts we would probbaly be on the bench by now.

Perhaps it was the Treasury that gave HMRC lessons in how do nothing. The list of crimes by the Treasury seems to be rising..

                    Inactivity
                    Self-interest
I'll hold back on corruption for now but the stench is building...

For the record I note that this is Stephen Timms' 3rd term as Treasury Minister. He is obviously perceived as being good at it - not clear which of the above skills appealed to his Paymasters most.

They responded promptly last year when only a handful of people wrote. Unfortunately, the arguments we've put forward this time are not so easy to rebut, and many MPs have had multiple representations and the Treasury know they won't be fobbed of with platitudes.

Also, we have presented evidence (FOI) that some officials in the Treasury may not have seen before.

The shear number and diversity of letters makes it difficult for them to issue a standard response which will satisfy MPs.

I suspect they are really irritated because they thought this was done and dusted last year.

By the way, I have now received confirmation that 121 MPs have received letters. Many people have also sent the followup letters. Below is a list of MPs who have received multiple representations.

                      John Redwood, Con, 4
                      David Gauke, Con, 3
