I have though, in the odd occasion, seen the House Of Commons on TV when there has been an MP voicing concerns on an issue to a largely empty house with an audience of say half a dozen other MPs. I couldn't help thinking 'What's the point if there are so few people there!??!?'
New Labour doesn't care a hoot about driving thousands of people toward bankruptcy. They will have thought through the strategy on this, decided they'll lose at worst a handful of votes, and so don't care.
But they won't be chasing Big Business too hard for the tens of billions they avoid in tax. Lloyds Bank (that is, the bank we all now own) is being berated for offshoring and avoiding millions in taxes. Anyone care to bet when Gordo will close those loopholes? Never, is my bet, but certainly not retrospectively.
