Sent my letter in today to Andrew Slaughter (labour). I've also forwarded to 4 others. Keep up the good work DR.

MPs will disapprove of what we did on moral grounds, but does the punishment (bankruptcy) fit the "crime"? Especially, when HMRC could have stopped us compounding the "crime" years ago.
Ahem, no crime has been committed, but point taken.
Yes, MPs disapproving on moral grounds. The hypocrisy!!
These wouldn't be the same MPs who can claim up to 180k a year in expenses, and who a mere few weeks ago tried to stop their expense claims being published under the Freedom of Information Act (Gordon Brown changed tack completely at the last minute when the support he thought he had from the Tories was taken back).
Just did a check on married MPs Ed Balls and Yvette Cooper, who according to Wikipedia claimed between them, in ONE YEAR, over £300k in tax-free allowances!! See http://www.parliament.uk/documents/u...wances0607.pdf
And until recently much of this did not need to be backed up by receipts, unlike Joe Taxpayer who has to receipt every single item claimed as an expense.
The last people who should take the moral high ground are MPs.Comment

One thing's for sure - win or lose, I've utterly lost my faith in
a) government
b) financial advisors
c) banks
...and if (as I expect) I get to hang on to my gains after this HMRC debacle, I won't be rushing to spend it, certainly not in this country.Comment

Delurking.
Hi guys. Great work! I have been following these threads for months and have made colleagues in the scheme aware of the various threads. DR we're loving your work and very happy to have you around
- I Joined MP in 2001 right at the beginning.
- I left at the beginning of 2004 to take up a permanent role at the company I was contracting for with a deal too good to refuse.
- I had two colleagues in the scheme with me at the time. Lost touch with one, the other is still with me.
- HMRC attempted to open an enquiry after the 12 months from SA submission had elapsed. MP slapped them for it, although they insist they can leave it open.
- All years now have open enquiries but no CNs recvd yet.
I have to say I've suffered numerous sleepless nights over this scheme. I'm guessing from the 33% rule I'm looking at around £70k before interest and I can probably get half of this (in offset at the mo) the rest having to come out of what little equity Mr G. Brown-stain has left me with in my house. I realise this leaves me in a better position than some of you on here, but it's still an awful lot of money to have at risk. Plus, we moved house in Dec 07, right before the bubble really burst. The house has probably lost around £40k-£60k by now I reckon.
The relentless time some of you guys have put in plus the research you've been performing and posting about has helped me feel much more positive about all this. Thank you and keep up the good work!
I remain convinced we will win. HMRC can twist, wriggle and squirm as much as they like but there enough of us, with enough legal backing now to overturn HMRC's stupidity. M&S have done it. Now it's our turn to take the biscuit.Comment

Interesting
I am in the unique position of living in Switzerland now. I wonder what recourse they have to me over here. Like many on here financial ruin would be the result if I have to pay the full amount issued in the CN.Comment

Do you ever want to come back to UK?
Its obviously harder for HMRC to get to people outside the EU. I heard they have an office in Sydney for chasing expats : but not sure if that is true.
I should warn anyone on here who posts here about moving abroad that HMRC can issue jeopardy notices : I believe this freezes your assets. AFAIK the only one on here whom HMRC know the identity of is me. Not sure if admin could be ordered to reveal email addresses/ip addresses or if they would do so if requested (I suspect they would).
Anyone thinking of it should be careful what they say about it....Comment

Can't vote

Of course, I slipped up with the options. I should have used binary:
1 other person
2 other people
4 other people
8 other people
etc.
and then allowed people to specify the exact number by selecting multiple choices. Oh well, too late now.Comment
