Sent a copy of the letter to my Local MP Nick Raynsford today. Added a few personal circumstance details to help the cause.
I was using the scheme for 4 years and it would pretty much bankrupt me if it came down to it (or would have to sell my house and be left with nothing at best).
My wife and I have had a tough time recently, I lost my Mum to cancer and a year later my mother-in-law now has it (although tahnk goodness she is recovering well at present). We got married last year and really want to look forward to the future and start a family of our own, however it feels like we have the Sword of Damocles hanging over us which is making it impossible to plan for anything in the future.
Thanks again to everyone for all the support and to DR for writing the letter. It really does make a difference to have solidarity in numbers, keep your chins up everyone.

          Poll

Before anyone asks I wasn't wasting an option on "andyw".

Of course, I slipped up with the options. I should have used binary:
          1 other person
          2 other people
          4 other people
          8 other people
          etc.

and then allowed people to specify the exact number by selecting multiple choices. Oh well, too late now.

HMRC gives in after WASTING a fortune on a hopeless case

YET AGAIN HMRC has spent a fortune of taxpayers money demonstrating just how nasty they are. For 13 years they have been holding onto M&S’s cash – cash which they forced M&S to collect with no legal authority.

They will now have to pay back £3.5 million in vat and pay the legal fees of M&S. Claims from other firms are expected to exceed £100m.

If I recall correctly, previously M&S won a “declaration of incompatibility” from the UK Human Rights Court/Act. The government then tried to not implement the decision only to find that unless they did, the European Court of Justice would force them to.

If the government can afford to waste so much money on cases like these, they must have too much money. Time for some tax cuts.

Time to sack the civil servant without pension who authorised this witch hunt.

That's really bad luck, I hope things get better for you soon.

You've really hit the nail on the head, it doesn't really matter whether you've already used the money, or some of it, or you had future plans for it - there aren't many of us for whom this wouldn't be a devastating blow to our lives, taking away security, hopes, plans, homes, family life, current or future. I doubt that there are any of us who are high living rich types with money to burn, if we were we probably wouldn't have bothered to use this scheme, to my knowledge it was for IT contractors not the landed gentry or CEO's of FTSE 100 companies with golden hellos, golden goodbyes and golden in betweens!!

HMRC (we know you read this) get a grip, take a look at yourself and be honest about what you are trying to do here. If you bankrupt us many of us won't be able to work anyway because clientco won't hire a bankrupt - you might as well just put us on the laminated list of the permanently unemployed. Which in case you haven't noticed will cost you big time!

well, I will end up a bankrupt if this goes ahead. That means I wont be able to be a director of a company and being a contractor its pretty damn important. That makes me unable to work in the capacity Im accustomed too...and dya know what!!!

For once in my life Im gonna claim the Dole and sit on my ass while Gordon et al pay for me as some sort of recompense for all this....!!!!

Logic doesnt apply does it, instead of allowing me to pay corp tax, PAYE etc and continue in work, they are happier to bankrupt me and pay ME dole money, huh!!!????
