ditto ditto ditto ditto - this was virtually my exact story

The things that really got my goat were:

    - IR35 and having to endlessly face up to different agency lawyers trying to put stupid contract terms in

    - the general slashing of rates after the dotcom bust (when clientco finally got to get their own back on what they saw as beanbag sitting overpaid IT bods - even though the ones they attacked were those of us that stayed at the old institutions - not very gentlemanly I thought)

This scheme was the only thing that made 6am support shifts and the general amount of underskilled over-self-important managers vaguely bearable....been trying to scrape enough together to leave the whole business ever since 2003 - this has been a potential large spanner in my plans....can't see the point carrying on unless it works. If I get forced to pay I swear I'll sell up everything put it all in a large pile of 20s and burn the lot before I pay them a penny - I would be that angry.

Anyway I still think we'll win.

          SA Return and stuff

In previous years MP have sent me the relevant pages to submit to my accountant with my SA return - basically because I still have a ltd company going. I am guessing these pages will soon be delivered to me in a nice envelope...

Has anyone else who has done this in the past received this info from MP as yet?

Also, after having appealed, what happens next? Can I expect to get anything back from HMRC on the matter, and more importantly, are any payments still due? I've read about payments being suspended until the outcome of the JR is known - is this the case?

Finally, regarding approaching ECHR - if MP do not end up pursuing this route (and there is no suggestion by me that MP won't be doing this), I for one would gratefully part with a couple of grand for the cause - how much do these things cost? If there are a thousand of us willing to find 2K... that should help grease someones palms at the very least - even if its a lawyer and not my preferred choice of an MEP.

              Date of JR

Not sure how off the mark I am here - but is the delay of the JR possibly down to the limited number of CN's that have been issued? Were HMRC given a 'period of time' to issue CN's prior to a date being agreed?

Joking aside, I think for many people it's a case of "can't pay" rather than "don't want to pay".

People may have been able to scrape something together a year or so ago but with collapsing stock market, plunging house prices and rapidly declining job market, there is little prospect now.

                HMRC's timing couldn't be better.

in many ways, the fact I havnt a hope of paying is a comfort, no equity in the house, no assets, just my contract income, and if we lose, i just stop actively seeking work. i am determined they will get nothing...

incidentally, its been very quiet re closure notices, have they stopped?

MP also have 2 days to fulfil their 'monthly update' promise!
