I have just received a copy of the new letter from HMRC.
Since when did HMRC start sending out "Newsletters" as they call it. After years of almost silence they are sending out newsletters?? Whats next will they be sending me Tesco vouchers in the post too?
The tone of the letter is from someone on a more guarded if not back foot. Roll on the Judicial Review.Comment

Yep just received this also so its winging its way to MP.
HMRC's letter seems to suggest those people who havent got closure notices is due to investigations on large differences between declared scheme profits and amounts shown on SA's.I couldn't give two fornicators! Yes, really!Comment

You all might be interested to know that the police objected not just to me mentioning people by name - but also for having a coffee in private with Santa Claus! Apparently because we did not allow someone who wanted to come along - we were up to no good!

HMRC Newsletter
Just received mine.
Regarding the discrepancies between accounts and tax returns, they do say "However for most people we do have accounts that agree with tax returns". So this doesn't explain why only 150 or so CNs have been issued.
It sounds like they are pressing ahead with the appeals process, notwithstanding the JR, so presumably the next step will be for them to take one or more appeals to the General/Special Commissioners for determination.
This may be a daft question but do they need to take every single case individually to the Commissioners?
I agree with futurecat, this letter is a lot more measured than some of the previous ones. I suspect they are being extra careful now knowing that anything they say could be used as evidence in court.Comment
