That must make me a raving nutcase and a Hector too! Because I worked next to Brillo in a previous contract.

Actually, Brillo has such a sadistic streak, no-one crossed his path at my last company. People used to hide under there desks when he came in every morning
    .....
    .....

Joke! Brillo is a really nice and mild mannered person

You could have been describing the guy that wrote all the bullying letters ().

This forum hits self destruct as soon as no one can trust anyone else. You don't need to be a member to read everything that's on here. In fact at any one time there are normally 3 times as many people "watching" as those logged in.

One of the possible issues you might have with a private forum is you are not so likely to get any contrary views. That might be a bad thing and might lull you into a false sense of optimism about your prospects.

I also happen to think it highly unlikely that there is a single piece of information that HMRC have picked up from here that they weren't aware of or hadn't previously considered in their game plan.

yeh I cant really see what HMRC could use on this board apart from gauging everyones sentiment. Unless Montp or someone where to list out in detail their plan of attack its all pertty worthless, at the moment....

so why are they so interested in it then?

IMO some of Mal's posts were highly useful. But I seemed to be in a minority. Fine line between being contrary and trolling. I 60% agree with you and 40% disagree - others might have a different balance.

HMRC might not of got anything from here - but they certainly got useful stuff from other forums in the past. Potentially, 1 wrong word could blow the scheme apart. I dont like the risk.

probably in the hope someone drops a B*llock and lets something important slip....you know like repeating what we got in the letter a few weeks back from Montp explaining their strategy...thankfully it hasnt happened yet!!

Maybe they are trying to gauge sentiment. They would always try the easier route and hope people would cave in and save them the uncertainty of a court case.
Hence the threatening letters. If they were certain of a successful outcome they wouldn't need to threaten would they?
That's also why they preferred the retro legislation (/ clarification for you Mal) instead of taking it to court after they finally realised they would probably lose.
Fortunately, the sentiment seems to be from this forum and others I've spoken to that we are going to wait for the JR & then the Euro court. Might take years but there's really no other option.
I agree with SD though, eventually this will be decided by the courts, and there's nothing Hector nor us can do about it. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think the outcome will hinge on a word or two written on a blog either for or against (Mal, Gooner..etc no matter how learned they think they are)
