Once again Santa hits the nail on the head!

My ex works for HMRC - I know the mindset. They once had someone ask for a £16 rebate - they decided to stall them as much as possible - or until it had cost them £500 in accountants fees.

Why would anyone discuss on here the fact that they have no nads and will not stand up to be counted. Mr Brannigan (hello ) will take note of this! All they will do is what he would do to us. As Santa has said.

I sometimes wonder why I bother with this thread - I guess it is because some of the posts are just so totally wrong I feel sorry for the others who might read them.

I think I need to go for a lie down. That or vent my anger on the next user who contacts me.

My theory is that most IT workers are so used to working in a repressive atmosphere and keeping their heads down, they dont have it in them to protest about anything.

Mr Brannigan knows this (hello ) and that we will lie down and take any sh!t thats thrown at us.

Indeed. But everyone has their breaking point. Look at the former Yugoslavia. Until Tito died it was a lovely place. Very quickly degenerated into a hell hole. My brother (the one who was a major in 1para and turned down the sas) went there - he rarely talks about the things he saw.

I still think we will win. 80% confidence. Best I dont continue this post - I am still under a formal warning. I shall continue on Friday.

does any one know how interest on CTDs works? ..... there are two different sets of rates - under and over 100k. Is that cumulative amount or single CTD note? so it i buy 75 then 50 - do I qualify for the higher interest (in the event we get it back) or would i need to cash in the 75 when i get the next 50 and get a single one for 125?...

Not sure but you don't want to cash in the 75k CTD otherwise you will forfeit the protection from interest penalties while you were holding that CTD.

It's not clear from their spreadsheet how much interest you earn on a 100k certificate if you hold it over 12 months.

I have tried ringing their "helpline" a couple of times but only ever get an answering machine.

As far as I'm concerned, the interest is a minor issue. If we win and I get to keep the money I couldn't care less whether it pays any interest or not!

                  Finance Committee

I know that there wasn't really any point in writing to the Finance Bill Committee members (cc A. Darling, G. Brown, D. Cameron) - but I did... Asking them how the government thinks it can act in this clearly illegal, incompetent and dishonest way. I have one reply so far from Colin Breed.

However as you are aware I voted against retrospection which is being used frequently by this Govt on grounds of tackling tax "evasion". I believe lawful tax "avoidance" is perfectly permissible. I fully understand your concerns but you must address these to your own MP.
