[QUOTE=malvolio;476468]Ask Simon Dolan of SJD or Alan at Nixon Williams or Darren at Upton. All three post on here and all three have a deep understanding of the small contractor business model. You could argue that they demonstrate such specialists do exist and are not merely marketing vapourware.
bit of a bugger if the accountant in question was one of the three named above!!Comment

I suspect it was, actually, which is why I want the OP to tell the PCG who it is.Originally posted by sidknows View Postbit of a bugger if the accountant in question was one of the three named above!!

has anyone noticed how people come on here and moan about accountants and then don't name them
It would help as this is precisely the type of forum where that information needs to be sharedComment

Assuming, of course, they have a verifiable and genuine complaint - else they may get sued for libel and/or defamation...Originally posted by sidknows View Posthas anyone noticed how people come on here and moan about accountants and then don't name them

To be fair, Simon Dolan for one has a standing request that if you have a problem with SJD you should email him directly. I guess any business would do the same if they want to hang on to their clients.Blog? What blog...?

I use Bernard Rogers, on the recommendation of a contractor mate of mine. I recently found out that another friend (and contractor) also uses them.
They are contractor specialists and certainly do understand IR 35 - but like all professionals, they will just give you their answer about stuff which may differ from others.
I can give a totally frank and honest account of my recent dealings with them. My Company has decided to offer employees (and directors) childcare vouchers.
I phoned my account manager about this and a couple of other questions - on the childcare vouchers he said there was a factsheet on their website (in a nice way - this was perfectly good answer for me). I looked but couldn't find it. I used the "site" search in Google to search for it - no joy. I e-mailed the guy and had no response so I had to ring again - and he had to call me back. In the end he directed me to a link on their site which simply points to the HMRC factsheet I'd already seen.
I asked if they wanted monthly details from me, but he said not - not sure whether this is a good or bad thing really.Comment

Sometimes it's good to know if the service you're getting is what you're paying for and that you don't have unrealistic expectations.Originally posted by sidknows View Posthas anyone noticed how people come on here and moan about accountants and then don't name them

Personally I won't name and shame until the service provider has been given chance to put things right. But if they don't then I'll shout it from the rooftops

Just as amatter of curiosity I lloked at their website and could'nt find any details of their 'contractor specialism'
Their description is as below /
Bernard Rogers & Co is a Chartered accountancy practice in Kenilworth; a Warwickshire town in the centre of England. It is a sole practitioner firm run by Bernard Rogers, a Chartered Accountant, who has over 20 years experience in the accountancy business
If they are specialists perhaps they should have a few detilas on their website
In fact I struggled to find the words contractor , IR 35 on their website !Comment

There is mention of IR35 on the Resources page.. Following the link leads to a page with 2 more links.. Following the "Potential Tax Problems of a Personal Service Company" link leads to a blurb of generalisations about IR35 and something about the Arctic Systems case, but nothing about the forthcoming 'Income Shifting' legislation.. They do offer a 'contract check' for IR35ness as part of their service, according to the blurb..Originally posted by sidknows View PostJust as amatter of curiosity I lloked at their website and could'nt find any details of their 'contractor specialism'

Being as I live in Leamington Spa, I might go and see them and ask some questions...
