I think they do a great job (apart from banning me, which was uncalled for and too harsh for such a minor infraction...) - indeed if any of them had been available for the Xmas do, I'm sure that a number of drinks would have been bought for them.

This is clearly something you feel very strongly about. Why not leave it a few days before replying again though?

I got a grilling on my first post here and because of that I was motivated to read up and catch up so I wouldn't be disadvantaged.

OK, so it suits you, but not everyone. But you don't speak for everyone, anymore than I do.

What's come out of all of this for me is that alternative opinions are not acceptable if you don't conform to the embedded CUK culture, generated by the few, of general disrespect and downright rudeness by those who clearly think that the CUK is theirs and theirs alone and be damned with the rest of us on here. That was my main mistake really, expecting that the CUK belongs to everyone. Clearly it doesn't. More's the pity though....

All I was ever doing when I started the first thread was to express an opinion. I expected a reasoned debate on the subject by contributors who had reasonable things to say, whether they agreed with me or not. I didn't expect slavish adoration for my stance, but nor did I deserve World War III to break out and be pelted by missiles and toys being thrown out of prams either.

I can't say that I've learnt anything at all that is useful from those who glorify in hostility and lack of respect....except how insecure and idiotic they are. I can't take them seriously, I'm afraid....and I love a good joke and banter as you well know.

The only posts I've remembered are those responses that were clear stated and offered in a reasonable manner. Alas, they were few and far between, particularly toward the end. Hence my desire to close the thread.

CUK is not a democracy.

As others have said - you can never have been a moderator. I have. It is not a simple task and decisions have to be made for the greater good.

Also, life is not fair. I think General is a hell-hole and an unpleasant place for newbies. The only way to fix that is ban most of the people that post there ... which will leave no CUK.
