Read this > http://www.contractoruk.com/003661.html HMRC are clamping down on dispensations, article make references to it being retrospective, and even to umbrallas having to go bust if they cant pay up. Legally can the HMRC only take action against the umbralla to claim the £ or can they come after the umbralla user ?

It's almost a shame that eddiegee got banned - I'd be VERY interested to know his take on this, after repeatedly advocating claiming £25 a day for lunch because he could.Comment

Depends on their findings once they've raided the brollies I'd say.
If theres widespread abuse within that organisation they could end up going through everything.
I would be worried if I was using a brolly (even before this piece of news). I'd say you're more of a target than a limited. A larger honeypot to come after.
I can see the attraction of using a brolly though, breakfast & lunch paid for plus £30 a day for staying out of the house for over 10 hours (or so a brolly user tells me).Eat Right, Exercise, Die Anyway.Comment

They will come after the user, after all it is you who has lied about your expenses if you are claiming for something that you haven't spent. The tax liability will be yours.Originally posted by Bumfluff View PostRead this > http://www.contractoruk.com/003661.html HMRC are clamping down on dispensations, article make references to it being retrospective, and even to umbrallas having to go bust if they cant pay up. Umbrella users who have not lied about expenses have nothing to worry about.Comment

the contractor is the one with the problems as it would appear they are claiming expenses without incurring them -- unscrupulous providers providing
exaggerated take home pay by 'duping' contractors will get off scott free -- always check the small print of what you signing or accepting !Comment

And this is on the back of MPs being able to claim up to £100/day (or was it a week?) in unreceipted expenses.
Do as they say not as they do! Someone somewhere is having a right laugh at the mugs they call taxpayers.Feist - 1234. One camera, one take, no editing. Superb. How they did it

I agree it is about time and I can think of a few people who should be sh*ting themselves. Genuine non dodgy umbrella employees should have nothing to worry about.Comment

I don't know if it is true or not but I was told a while ago that HMRC staff can claim upto around £75 a night without reciepts. When I was a staff bloke about 6 years ago we could get £52 a night without reciepts or "within reason" with receipts.Public Service Posting by the BBC - Bloggs Bulls**t Corp.
