HMRC are going to have a tough time catching all these 'criminals'. They can barely cope as it is. I personally know about 4 people that are leasing an ev through their company purely for personal use. Then the thousands on the ev forums...

I very much doubt they are all leasing through LTD's for purely personal use as you've stated. I'll bet they understood what a business journey is and how their business work though so not the same as you at all if you dig in to the detail.

That said we have entered a new world with WFH being the norm now so who knows if HMRC are going to start having a good look at how WFH affects businesses. We are only a year or so in to it and many companys haven't nailed their policies yet. We are seeing plenty of complaints on here from people who have been 100% WFH for three years now being asked to move to a more hybrid role with a few days in the office. I think most forget that if you are 100% WFH then they need to go re-think some of their business issues such as cars. I'm guessing it's too much hassle for HMRC though. They'll just pick up on it when they come visit for some other investigation.

Travelling to a client site might be, or it might not be commuting.
it’s probably not commuting, but you need to understand the difference between a temporary and a permanent place of work (hint- it’s nothing to do with your contract).

The 4 that I mentioned knowing personally are people I work with so in the same line of work as I am. So I can assure you there is no real business use there.

Since 0% BIK on EVs a few years ago, it became very lucrative to do this hence the popularity of this arrangement

I just use my personal car and no I do not claim mileage
