First port of call is to ask the brolly what expenses they will accept.

I'd be surprised if they would accept anything that isn't being directly reimbursed by the end-client but always happy to be proved wrong.

The same question could also be posed to an agency if you're working via their payroll.

I am surprised.. as every brolly I have heard of mentions that specific items like these can be
I've heard Freddie Starr ate someones hamster so must be true. If you are really are going via brolly you should have done some basic research. This would have been very clear as no expenses is pretty black and white and is covered in nearly every article.

You should really be trying to understand the way you are employed much better than this. Why would you sign up for something before you've even understood basics such as expenses?

      Going forward...

Umbrellas has it's own section of the forums where this should have been. In there are thousands of umbrella related questions so they should help you.
There are newbie guides and an umbrella section on the right so you need to read through those.
Use the google search method to research basic questions. If you type in something like 'Umbrella expenses' site:contractoruk.com/forums' you would have found your answer and much more you could have learned

I have done the research. The post was about a specific question (that is not a usual expenses question) that maybe I thought others here could simply say a yes or a no based on experience.

Also, fyi, The fact that you are also saying no expenses is black and white is simply wrong. From actual experience, many expenses are allowed - at least in the ~4 I have worked / familiar with

And then when I asked it became a different question.

Going back to your original question (i.e. the title of this thread)

Surely the pension set up fee should be being taken from your initial pension contribution

and your self assessment return (assuming thats what you mean by tax keeping fee) may or may not be included as a fringe* benefit by your umbrella company.

*Note for me that is a reason to avoid an umbrella not to use one as if the umbrella is dodgy it would be insisting on doing your self assessment to continue their tricks as long as possible.

So have you asked your umbrella? What did they say?

Oh dear. I suspect you're in for a bit of a rude awakening here.
