As for meeting friends,..... this didn't happen.... and it wasn't part of the planning...... if whilst you're waiting for your flight (can't go out and return the next day for that distance) you happen to meet up then that's fine as it's not part of the reason for the trip.
    Dec Con 2020 in Vegas - August 6-9, 2020

Flights are weekly so have to stay for 7 days. Plan to catch up with my mate there, even though, through sheer coincidence he will be sat next to me on the flight and back.

If I nick a badge from one of the bins outside can I claim the full trip?

I went to a wedding in Vegas in 2002/3 that coincided with a SCO conference (remember them?).
Didn't claim it all but some of it we did (it was before my contracting days).

I've yet to find a conference that's in a location I want to visit.

Clackton on Sea isn't much of a conference location is it.

Usually the interesting ones are in effing London!

I missed the World ATM Congress in Madrid, sadly, but it's back there in 2020...

I wouldn't over think it too much.

Its either a genuine business activity or its not... If you are adding days onto the trip more than you need then that's probably an indicator you have gone too far..

How much personal time / enjoyment you get out of it is over thinking it to me. Been on plenty of business trips where I have made the most of the trip and gone to theater / enjoyed the sights and met up with friends.

If in the end you have an actual meeting and have some proof to back it up and you are not adding on extra days for personal stuff its going to be hard for anyone to pull you up on it.
