I want to move away from the intouch portal and they offer both xero & freeagent as a paid option. Couldn't find anything recent that compares the two. What do you guys think about them? Want to be able to do the usual - invoices, expenses, bank reconciliation, dividends inc vouchers, filling any returns. I'm the only employee but would like to at least see how much I should be paying myself every month - same thing as with intouch

I think most contractors use FreeAgent but I believe both offer 30 day free trials so might be worth having a play with both and see which you prefer, they both do everything you needOriginally posted by cinek View PostI want to move away from the intouch portal and they offer both xero & freeagent as a paid option. That's more because it's the standard offering of the accountants rather than by choice between the two. The fact FA is the choice of contractor specialist accountants speaks volumes though.Originally posted by pr1 View PostI think most contractors use FreeAgent but I believe both offer 30 day free trials so might be worth having a play with both and see which you prefer, they both do everything you need'CUK forum personality of 2011 - Winner - Yes really!!!!

Both are good. Both have strengths and weaknesses. FreeAgent is probably more suited to freelancers/contractors. Xero for small business.Comment

to me all that speaks is that it's cheaper for them to run freeagent than xero, either by how much work they need / don't need to do or how much the subscription costs them :-pOriginally posted by northernladuk View PostThat's more because it's the standard offering of the accountants rather than by choice between the two. Xero is a nice piece of software but overkill for contractors.Comment

Software
If it was a cost decision then wouldn't be either of these. The usability of Freeagent is much better than Xero, etc. From a cost perspective it's about mid-tier, especially with the discounts received.Originally posted by pr1 View Postto me all that speaks is that it's cheaper for them to run freeagent than xero, either by how much work they need / don't need to do or how much the subscription costs them :-pComment

What kind of point are you trying to make? Excel is not designed for running small company accounts, but FreeAgent is and it does it very well.Originally posted by kaiser78 View PostExcel is perfect for my needs still...Comment
