Buying an ultra-low emission motorbike and BiK/Capital Allowances...

Moderator moved my post but didn't state where it had been moved to, hence repost.
    Hi All,

I've seen a lot of mixed messages about this and yet to get any concise answer (even from my accountant).

My situation: I want to buy an electric motorcycle, which is classed as an ULEV with 0 emissions. I want to expense it against the company ( I operate limited, and am the sole director), the bikes new value is around £12000.

Does anyone have any idea how this is taxed, how the benefit-in-kind aspect works, and how Capital Allowance (100% Free in the first year?) works? I need a dummy's guide as I've never had a company vehicle. I will use the bike for personal use around 20 miles per week I would think.

    Thanks in advance,

    Dave

And my original comment was lost.

You need to switch your accountant if they can't tell you how it will be treated.

Suppose you get advice from someone on here (unpaid) then your accountant disagrees?

I suspect the reason there is no straight answer is that there is no actual answer from HMRC regarding the question

https://comanandco.co.uk/motorcycles gives just about the most detailed explanation of how motorcycles are treated for tax reasons and I don't think emissions have anything to do with the rules - benefit in kind is 20% of the purchase price....

          Semi off topic

A, £12k is a stupid amount of money to pay for any motorbike if not primarily a fancy weekend toy.

B, I am a high mileage rider and have been for over 40 years now, one of the most important things to me is the perimeter security offered by the sound a bike makes.

And I do not just mean in loudness terms, a motorcycle engine also emits low frequency sounds as well and drivers in cars often sense that .......... well proper drivers do anyway

Although I do own an Electric Car I would have severe reservations filtering through traffic on a near silent EV bike.

          Bear that in mind.
So now I am worried, am I being deceived, just how much sugar is really in a spoon full!
