    Short Term Contract and Expenses

    Hi All,

Apologies for asking this question that has probably been asked thousands of times however I can't find a post that matches my current position.

When i started contracting last year, I was told by my previous accountant that I could claim travel and food whilst on clients sites, at the time the client was a 30 minute commute away and the contract was for 4 months.

Subsequent contracts have been further away but similar lengths (no more than 6 months)

My new accountant is advising that I should not claim for the food at any of my contracts, as it's not outside of usual work, However as the contracts were for such a short duration's, would this not be seen as temporary and/or my home office being the 'main' place of work?

    Thanks

Please read the First Timers guides in the link on the right hand side. This will have lots of information about what expenses you can and can't claim. It's not totally straight forward so apply what you learnt there to your situation --->

The normal search box at the top right is pants. You want to be using the search method as detailed in the FAQ pages here...
    http://forums.contractoruk.com/welco...uk-forums.html

This will get you something like...
    https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=ca...ntractoruk.com
and you'll find your question has indeed been asked a million times.

You could also try google for basic expenses guides. Once you've found those do further searches to narrow it down to the detail you need. An example of this is...
    https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=ca...ses+contractor

This is pretty basic. If you don't understand this enough to argue with your accountants I'd be worried about how much you don't know that you are missing. Your account provides you with a reactive service and does not run your company. It's up to you to understand it as best you can.
