Being sent home early on Christmas eve

    Hi all

The company I'm currently working at have a habbit of closing early on Xmas eve, they pay all permanent staff for the whole day, but alas will only pay me for my time in the office. I know there are pros and cons with this sort of work but wandered if this is normal procedure.

    Merry Xmas

Wow... Where to start with this one...

Which bit are you asking about normal procedure? Going home half day on xmas eve or only paying contractors for the time the work (really???)?

Sounds more like you are permie to me so why not try claim it?

Please tell me it wasn't about only get paid for the time in the office... please please please.....

Do they allow a dress down day on xmas eve or do you still have to wear your t-shirt emblazoned with the clients logo?

If you are paid by the day, you charge by the day. If you are paid by the half day, you charge by the half day. If you are paid by the hour, you charge by the hour.

I don't see any complexity with this one.

It can be a little more complex that that, however, this should be clearly stated in the contract.

My contract states 5 hours as a full day.

Anything less, is proportioned out and works out less than a half day, if you only did 4 hours, for example.

I suggest you raise this at your next appraisal with your manager and while you're there ask him why you're not getting an annual bonus like the permie guy sitting next to you

I'll get slated for this, but if your office communications and your documentation were this bad I'd send you home early every day.
