£30K for 5 years is a pretty hefty accountant's fee.

Not really, not for two companies, with what appears at this remove to be a very much hands-off director when it comes to the accounts.

And the Institutes won't get involved in fee disputes anyway.

Many times around the block tells me there is more to all of this, and in any event I think not billing for five years and dumping it in one go is on the edge of ethical. I don't hold out much hope they would do anything mind, and, in any event, I suspect there is more behind this.

Definitely. There's a reek to this. Don't know what but it smells off.

Poor Mercalad won't like me saying but the thread smells of socks.

There were a lot left out yesterday.

My previous accountant used to charge me nearly £3k a year before I left. Two companies, five years, no-one looking after the company properly...

We can not pay the bills and feel very unhappy with the whole thing.

                any advice?
Offer them £5,000, on the basis of the following:
                • No letter of engagement/contract
                • Failed to bill in a timely fashion
                • Failed to complete and submit return(s)
                • Poor service and communication
                • Have insufficient funds to pay any more anyway

And you weren't concerned about this? Didn't think to query it? Or just hoped you would get the services for free?

The head-in-sand approach with one's financial affairs shows wilful negligence on your part.

Got to be a windup. Doesnt pay for 5 years - decides to put his head down and not say anything.

Accountant who hasnt been paid for 5 years decides to do a bunk.

Not being funny like but its June now - surely at some point before jan you'd have thought to contact accountant just to confirm the SA is being done?

And you know the accountant has to get you to sign as well, dont you? A week before I would have been on the blower asking him where it was.
