Not being funny like but its June now - surely at some point before jan you'd have thought to contact accountant just to confirm the SA is being done?

And you know the accountant has to get you to sign as well, dont you? A week before I would have been on the blower asking him where it was.

Fines by HMRC are made for people like you. As is jail.
The supplier concerned were accountants. There must be codes for accruals and prepayments in the balance sheet. A value should have been posted every year in the relevant financial period for each expected annual charge. OP must have signed them off annually or HMRC would have been bending them over long ago.

So, either the OP has been spending way beyond their means and have been insolvent for at least 4 of those 5 years or both the OP and the accountant have been negligent and incompetent and HMRC would probably argue that neither are fit to run a business.

Or it's a troll. I know where my money lies.

And you weren't concerned about this? Didn't think to query it? Or just hoped you would get the services for free?

The head-in-sand approach with one's financial affairs shows wilful negligence on your part.

    any advice?
Offer them £5,000, on the basis of the following:
    • No letter of engagement/contract
    • Failed to bill in a timely fashion
    • Failed to complete and submit return(s)
    • Poor service and communication
    • Have insufficient funds to pay any more anyway

My previous accountant used to charge me nearly £3k a year before I left. Two companies, five years, no-one looking after the company properly...

Poor Mercalad won't like me saying but the thread smells of socks.

Not really, not for two companies, with what appears at this remove to be a very much hands-off director when it comes to the accounts.

And the Institutes won't get involved in fee disputes anyway.
