The supplier concerned were accountants. There must be codes for accruals and prepayments in the balance sheet. A value should have been posted every year in the relevant financial period for each expected annual charge. OP must have signed them off annually or HMRC would have been bending them over long ago.Originally posted by psychocandy View PostGot to be a windup. Doesnt pay for 5 years - decides to put his head down and not say anything.
Accountant who hasnt been paid for 5 years decides to do a bunk.
Not being funny like but its June now - surely at some point before jan you'd have thought to contact accountant just to confirm the SA is being done?
And you know the accountant has to get you to sign as well, dont you? A week before I would have been on the blower asking him where it was.
Fines by HMRC are made for people like you. As is jail.
So, either the OP has been spending way beyond their means and have been insolvent for at least 4 of those 5 years or both the OP and the accountant have been negligent and incompetent and HMRC would probably argue that neither are fit to run a business.
Or it's a troll. I know where my money lies.

And you weren't concerned about this? Didn't think to query it? Or just hoped you would get the services for free?Originally posted by crazybones View Posthe also has not billed us for 5 years.
The head-in-sand approach with one's financial affairs shows wilful negligence on your part.

Offer them £5,000, on the basis of the following:Originally posted by crazybones View Posthi
the company he left has now invoiced me for my two businesses for over £30,000
We can not pay the bills and feel very unhappy with the whole thing.
any advice?- No letter of engagement/contract
- Failed to bill in a timely fashion
- Failed to complete and submit return(s)
- Poor service and communication
- Have insufficient funds to pay any more anyway

Definitely. There's a reek to this. Don't know what but it smells off.Originally posted by Jessica@WhiteFieldTax View PostMany times around the block tells me there is more to all of this, and in any event I think not billing for five years and dumping it in one go is on the edge of ethical. Not really, not for two companies, with what appears at this remove to be a very much hands-off director when it comes to the accounts.Originally posted by mudskipper View Post£30K for 5 years is a pretty hefty accountant's fee.
And the Institutes won't get involved in fee disputes anyway.

(b) if old accountant(s) are regulated, formulate a complaint to professional body. You will need to exhaust any internal complaints process first if you are in contact with them.
