In my case it would actually be true - I've hardly ever worn a watch, never have this century, and see no reason to start now. As the guy says in the Cheech and Chong sketch when somebody tries to sell him a watch, "No thanks, man; I'm not into time."Originally posted by LisaContractorUmbrella View Post

Maybe I should try "I thought that I might one day develop an app, so I claimed it" when my Pebble Time arrives next month.Originally posted by SueEllen View PostI produce apps so its b.*
*OK I'm talking tulip but if you have a commercial reason for the watch it's b.Comment

If you're an iOS developer that wants or needs to develop Apps for it, then yes.
If you're not, then I think you might struggle to convince HMIT.
I am an iOS developer and could get one through the business but I'm not sure I even want one. I will inevitably get one though as I'm bound to start getting enquiries from clients.Comment

The answer is (not very helpfully) it's a business expense if it's a business expense.Originally posted by CloudWalker View PostWe all know it took a while to get smart phones excepted as a valid business expense by HMRC. But what about smart watches ?
Im not after one but would be interesting to know.
I worked for 6 months on a project which involved wearable devices (Pebble, Samsung and LG smartwatches) and obviously my client put them down as business expenses. After I left I bought one for development purposes and will claim it as such.
But if you want an Apple smartwatch just as a watch, then no, it would not normally qualify as a business expense.
