Does a ltd director has to pay a salary to himself?

Could it be dividents only when a ltd director (also 100% shareholder) decides to do that?
Also can a director pay salary to himself once a year on 31st of March once he makes sure that he has not done any permie job in that tax year so has not been paid any PAYE salary so it makes sence to pay a minimal one?

Yes a director is not subject to minimum wage regulations, so you can pay yourself as you see fit.

As per Kenny. Unless there happens to be a contract of employmemt in place.

Yes but unless you request to be on PAYE annual scheme you'll have to continue with RTI submissions monthly.

And the tax year ends on 5th April, btw.

Why do you say that? Perfectly reasonable question.

I am more wondering why you would not pay a salary just under the NI threshold?

Because even that doesn't necessarily make the best economic sense.
