        I think it's more the hope that no one is actually stupid enough to come to this site, read any of the posts in the HMRC scheme enquiries forum or this thread and still think a scheme is a good idea

          I think the difference with schemes is that most things that are illegal get shut down fairly quickly, they don't normally hang around long enough to get a website or serious business. Whereas 'schemes' number in their dozens and have been around for years, with a website and various other 'legit' appearances. A reasonable man could then conclude that such schemes are on the right side of the law and that it's only the moral justification you need to meet. Not to mention the fact that we all know long term contractors who may use one without trouble (for now ) and well, if they're alright why wouldn't you be? I can see why people get sucked in.
