Liquidation of Payerise
Hi,
Are any of you still having trouble with Payerise and tax? I too have been scammed and I can’t quite believe it! I was always employed up to the point that I went to work for a Locum Agency who subsequently recommended Payerise so had always had my taxes dealt with.
Having signed a contract stating I was employed by Payerise and paying them for this service (£15 a week) I naively assumed that my taxes would be dealt with properly. It turns out they have been taking money from me weekly for the past year and a half, stating “tax deduction” on my pay slip but have only paid a snippet to HMRC. I really don’t know what to do as they have now gone into Liquidation and I keep getting palmed off my people I talk to on the phone.
Have any of you been in contact with a solicitor? I don’t really want to throw money at a solicitor but I’m going to end up with a massive tax bill if this situation is not rectified. Any advice/guidance would be greatly received!Comment

I've been following the conversation on PAYERISE and note that they filed for liquidation in September. It's going to be important for all those who may have a claim on the company to register that with the liquidator as soon as possible. A quick search on Companies House will give you the name and address of the liquidator.
The people behind the company are connected to more than 100 other companies. That in itself is not illegal but does perhaps speak to there being some arrangements between them which from the posts above, may indicate that tax is being taken from you but has yet to arrive at HMRC. There may equally be any number of perfectly honest explanations for the effects you are seeing.
If (so far unproven) it is the case that there is a shortfall in tax paid on your behalf to HMRC, then you are at risk of being chased for that money. If that is the case, then the sooner you grasp the nettle and contact HMRC, the better.
In doing that you will need advice. If you have an agent who is not connected to PAYERISE, then that should be your first choice.
If you don't, you will need to find one. Clearly we are one such. Clearly, a Google search will throw up hundreds more.
It's not clear to us, as yet, what has happened here and we are investigating. It may be that nothing is going on or that we are unable to help. We would however like to try to understand the position and therefore - as we have always done - we are happy to offer a free initial call or email exchange whilst we collect data.
If we can help, then we will in due course put out terms. If we cannot, we will say so.
I'm sure that the more recent adviser entrants in this area are likely to do the same.Best Forum Adviser & Forum Personality of the Year 2018.

But if anyone knows why there maybe a structure in place I'd be interested to know.'CUK forum personality of 2011 - Winner - Yes really!!!!Comment

In due course the liquidator will publish accounts and statements of affairs. That though may be more than a year away.
We're making progress through the various companies - one of the major ones seemingly filed accounts for the year ended June 2017 - saying that they owed PAYERise £8.5m and another company £1.4m.
The £8.5m is not reflected in PAYERise accounts as an amount owed to them. (Admittedly the year ends are different (Jan and June), but there should perhaps be some note.)
What I've not yet uncovered is whether HMRC is a major player, i.e. has money owed.Best Forum Adviser & Forum Personality of the Year 2018.

Good Mornjng,
Should I be contacting the liquidator in the statement of liabilities myself?
I have a meeting set up with an accountant next week and he says worst case scenario HMRC may chase me for half the tax because Payerise have gone into liquidation. This is so upsetting as I have had so much money taken from me by Payerise over the last year and a half for what was meant to be “tax” but seemingly will never be seen again.Comment

I'd be interested to know why your accountant says you may be liable for "half" and not all of any shortfall claimed by HMRC.Best Forum Adviser & Forum Personality of the Year 2018.
