    Windows Phone 8.1

Followed the instructions here for the upgrade...

Download and install Windows Phone 8.1 developer preview with Cortana - PC Advisor

quite a big release, took 420 meg to download so that must be bigger than XP.

Big improvements all round. Adjusting the size of the tiles was long over due.

I do with they would hide the lock screen password inputs.

They do sound impressive. Transactional memory is interesting. I've read a bit about that in comm acm over the years, I didn't realise it was so close to production.
While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. It's a Spanish story about a guy named 'Manual.'

One of the premies has been on a presentation, I think we're getting one here (I'm at IBM), was ear-wigging a bit, seems it focusses on Linux on POWER, and a new Ubuntu too, with a POWER version of KVM, which doesn't seem much like a forward step to me but let's see. And lots of new management tools - goodbye HMC? Hope so....

Also I believe it's very green, and very cheap (comparatively) even POWER7 was quite frugal, think a new bobby-basic was about 3.8k or so, indeed a P7 blade is £1200 ish....

This is me guessing but we'll probably see a AIX 8 and iSeries 8 too, since IBM have lately been keen on aligning release numbers. Even got TSM 7.1 recently to align with AIX 7.1 and iSeries 7.1

            Interesting times...

I just got my 1020 after giving in to the temptation to upgrade from my WP7.8 610 and I generally like WP8 (but I liked WP7, it's not a massive difference).

I am also waiting for 8.1 to be released fully and maybe even then I'll wait a bit for bugs to be caught. I saw some mixed reviews about features like the personal hub being made pretty useless.

My biggest gripes about WP8, which I was expecting to be fixed coming from WP7:

                  - No push email on Google accounts
                  - Streaming video on BBC doesn't work even though they use HTML5 for live sport, and IE10 has decent HTML5 support. My iPad can watch the snooker in the browser, my shiny phone gets "device not supported"

I don't know how I ever lived without cortana, I would imagine it is much the same as siri and the google one but I am surprised how well it works for a Microsoft product in beta and have started to use it a lot.

BBC streaming works on IE mobile 11 as well.

Battery on the dev build is honking, have to charge it every night.
