Then again, I am a weirdo who plays Diablo, so I have this:

What are they like for day to day comfort? Great for gaming but pretty awful for general use or the dogs danglies all round. Do a bit of gaming but main use is just run of the mill.

Sorry just saw this. They are quite heavy to be honest. They do have detachable round weights which you can remove, but still on the heavier side. If I were to choose again, I would probably go for a run of the mill mouse.
