    LED GU10 downlighters.. experiences?

Anyone using LED GU10's rather than halogen ones? They seem to have come on leaps and bounds with a bewildering choice of harsh/warm light, beam angles, wattages, dimable etc etc and the harder I look for advice the more conflicting advice I see.

We have a lot of the halogen ones and I am quite happy that the savings on leccy and replacing bulbs far outweighs the cost of the bulb... am just interested in the quality of light/colours etc

    Anyone using them?

I've some in the kitchen, about a year ago - I find them very 'white' - makes the place look like a mortuary!

But they use a sixth of the energy and don't blow every five mins like the halogen ones did so on the whole it was a foot investment.

Go for warm white every time. I've on a mission to take out my 12v MR16 halogens (I've got over 100 of the things) and replace them with 240v GU10 LEDs. My main problem is getting the same level of brightness - you have to pay the cash for decent ones. I've replaced a dozen so far and had mixed results. Cheap ones don't appear to give out the advertised levels of light.

        I've been replacing my halogen's with LED's from here;

        Budget LEDS

Seem to do the job and cheap enough.

Im slowly replacing my GU10 with LED ones and they are very white but you can get the warm ones.

You can get them shipped over from China at £3/bulb but its a risk. I am currently buying them as and when

Use these in the entrance hallway, they're perhaps slightly too bright compared to the halogen bulbs
            Got these ones: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B005OJTQRA
£15 a pop but consistent output and no faulty units

I'd recommend buying a couple of different types and seeing what you think of the light output.
If you like one of them then order the rest!

Problem with the as and when approach is that you end up with mismatched lights and a pissed off wife. Simpler to go for the big bang approach once you've decided to go down the LED route

How do they look in the holder? Does the bubbled glass stick out of the holder by much or are they more or less the same dimensions as a halogen?

Pretty much the same dimensions, my holders have a metal clip which holds the bulb in from the front and those still fit on fine after the bulbs were fittted.

Smashing thanks for that. Just counted up and I have 83 of them to replace.

Might find a supplier a local supplier that will give me a load of different ones to play with FoC in return for a sizeable (discounted!) order.
