One PC in the house loses the internet at 10 pm every day????

The connection still shows as "connected" but if you try to acces a web page you receive a can't resolve DNS errror. By the next morning the PC is ok.

I have tried it via home plugs, wireless and even wireless to another connection source (BT Fon was within range). Same thing...no internet after 10 pm.

The main pc downstairs is hardwired and there are 2 other laptops on the network that are all fine. All running on XP Sp3 and the ISP is BT Infinity (I get 10 - 30 Mb per sec usually).

Anyone else experienced anything like this?

I'm contemplating formatting in case there's a virus of some sort in there.

There isn't any kind of parental setting on it that cuts internet at certain times? Just a guess if it is so regular.

There shouldn't be but I'll check event viewer when I get back friday.
Thing is I didn't do the build - bought the tower off ebay with OS already on. Tempted just to trash and rebuild myself.

I would go for the reformat. Who knows what crap might be on there. And if you've tried wired ethernet and wireless, then you've ruled out network issues.

New or second hand?

I don't trust second hand stuff and prefer a fresh start.

Definitely reformat...you never know what's on there, but anyway a nice clean reinstall should improve performance, if only by a small amount.

I take it you have looked at the Event Log to see what's going on around that time? Look for a Windows Service starting, or an error associated with not being able to connect to the internet (that may have more detail as to the underlying cause).
