I've used the 3 payg dongle for contracting from home while waiting for fixed line broadband to become active.

Was on it all day using remote desktop for a couple of weeks. Very reliable and used surprisingly little bandwidth.

Paid 30 quid for dongle then 10 quid for 1gb, which expires if not used within a month.

The 1gb lasted the month as it was too slow to download anything large, so I only used it to connect to client via remote desktop and for web browsing.

Overall a good cheap alternative and a reliable backup service for fixed line, providing you are in an area where a good signal is present.
Feist - 1234. One camera, one take, no editing. Superb. How they did it

So it was fine for RDP? Everything else I could probably live with using the machine I am connected to on the other side.

        Points to note
        - it totally bollocksed up the dvd device. Wouldn't recognise it afer installing the dongle. Have now fixed it but you might want to google it. as I had to edit the registry to get it working again
        - it comes with a content lock on it (which I wasn't told about - wanted to play poker). When you buy it make sure you have the lock removed at the shop and take some ID with you.
        - asked about the 1Gb limit and was told that it doesn't switch off if you exceed this, but that they may restrict your downloads. Asked what a download is and was told that meant things like YouTube. Haven't tested that one yet.
Yeah I read that last bit, when you exceed you should still be good for internet and email etc, just no heavy downloads
