Yes I did but i worked for a big company and big companies do things in bigger scale and invest heavily on things because they can afford too. Whereas when you start from the bottom you need the minimum to start off. I know theres paypal but not all my customers will have paypal account. So I want other options for my customers like credit card, etc..
I have worked with credit cards and payments etc in my professional career. But its about security more than anything..

If you've worked with credit card payments in your professional career, you will know that the owner of the website will need to have a merchant account and you'll need to integrate the site with whoever their provider is. In the uk, the most common are Protx, Worldpay and Netbanx, so like I said several posts back, get their integration guides.

Worldpay is ok, used it for a few years. Use it in conjunction with freeware Nopcart, a jscript based cart. See here:

Google Checkout, NOCHEX, and Paypal are the ones ive used...
Must say, google checkout is very good. when they first launched, you got free PPC advertising for every few quid that was spent on your site.. not sure if they still do that??

If you use discountasp then you can setup the ssl cert. through the control panel, pretty easy.

If your taking payments then you will need a business account and a merchant account. Getting a merchant account can take a bit of time more so if your a startup. Expect to be asked for a business plan and pages of gumpf.

Then you need to select a payment gateway, loads of options for this and if your taking recurring payments then think about recurly or braintree.

You also need to decide if you want to integrate seamlessly with the payment gateway or redirect to their payment page.

If you go down the seamless route the you have a couple of options. Storing credit card details or use a method to host the payment gateways payment form. Storing cc details will mean you have to adhere to pci requirements.

Personally I would avoid PayPal but if you can't get a merchant account then you may have to use them.
