Having just bought my new laptop I now need to import my Outlook Express emails. However OE does not run with Windows 7. So how do I get around this ? TIA.

God, I'd never use Windoze for myself. Have you tried installing XP mode:

Well, Outlook still works on W7. Or, does Windows Mail (replacement for OE) understand OE data files?Originally posted by MaryPoppinsI'd still not breastfeed a naziOriginally posted by vetranUrine is quite nourishingComment

Windows Mail isn't in Windows 7.
Try Thunderbird. It's much the same, and will import OE contacts and mail (don't ask me how, but I did it once). Will work inside IR35. Or for food.Comment

Windows Live Mail is a free add-on for Windows 7, replacing Windows Mail (which was introduced for Vista).
For Outlook (not Express) it looks like you need to import into Windows Mail before you can move it to Windows Live Mail, a path followed for those upgrading from XP -> Vista -> W7.
For Outlook Express it looks like you can import directly into Windows Live Mail.
Outlook Express 6 to Windows Live mail
If that doesn't work I seem to remember there being some free 3rd party tools to allow Windows Live Mail to access Outlook files, but as I suffered the Vista route I didn't need to bother with that option.
Personally I'm glad they dumped Outlook as the default mail programme for Windows. Got tired of having to mess around with the pst files whenever I wanted to move mail between PC and laptop, or access old archives. Windows Mail and Windows Live Mail use a simple file structure (hidden in user documents folder) with each email stored in a seperate text based file, not some encrypted bollocks. So can just use XCOPY type backup procedures and can search them easier.
Windows Live Mail also works with Exchange and Hotmail accounts for no extra charge.
