Can't get internet sharing on my android to work

It used to work but I think the 2.1 upgrade came between now and then.

Mobile network is on and when I plug the phone in to the PC it prompts for internet sharing. The PC picks up that it is an HTC and I can see packets getting swapped OK. SO the PC knows the phone is there and the phone knows the PC is there.

I can get it working on my old windows phone.

I can use the browser on the phone OK.

Anyone know what the problem might be?

    Cheers.

Have you tried setting your phone up as a wireless hotspot and see if that works?

I've never been able to get it to work on my Desire, tethering or hotspot.

        What network are you on?

I've had no problems with either on my Desire on T-Mobile.

Orange. Even they can't figure out what's wrong.

Try upgrading to Andoid 2.2. It solved a number of buggy software issues for me (though not that actual issue).

JUst back in from a webless day and done a bit of reading.

Seems to be a Android/Orange problem.

There are a few 'claimed' fixes on here.

Internet Tethering - Orange Mobile - Android Forums

Which did not work for me.

Looks like the problem is 2.1 & 2.2 and the problem will be with hotspots as well as tethering.

Get an iPhone, it just works.

Only if you ignore the lousy antenna issue it seems.

Think I am going to root the device, this apparently will solve the problem which is specific to Orange's android devices

Might do it later today when I finish off some code.
