CD drive runs on boot up

Not everytime but usually. Not a problem in itself but I'm wondering why this suddenly started happening a few weeks ago and if it's summit sinister.

    Any ideas on this? Ta.

Did you add or remove any disks? As I discovered recently a modern BIOS can decide to change the boot order "all on its own" when you start swapping disks around. I suppose a disk just failing to start fast enough on power up could have a similar effect.

It could of course be that "they" are out to get you
Behold the warranty -- the bold print giveth and the fine print taketh away.

Is there a disk in the drive?

Lots of PCs do this (all mine do), but you usually only hear it when there's a disk in there.
Will work inside IR35. Or for food.

Nope. Haven't touched the hardware or left a disc in. Haven't modded the CMOS or anything. Wondering if some left over from a scheduled registry defrag.

Is the CD drive first in the boot order in the BIOS?

            What is the Operating System?

Does CD run before or after the OS starts?

I haven't used the CD drive in my PC for ages. I'd just unplug it and leave it at that.

Cheers for replies. It's Win7 but it never did it before, just recently.
