I frequently do this... chat to a group of my mates (real ones, not ones I've met in game) whilst we're playing different games.....

I have both PS3 & Xbox, but the PS3 is mainly used just for blu-ray & media streaming, 90% of my game time is on Xbox mostly because that what my friends have and also because Xbox Live seems much more refined than the PS network.... but then, Xbox Live costs about £40 a year compared with PSN for free.....

I would rather chat to my real mates in the pub.

The big plus of the PS3 has to be the ability to use it as a media centre - blu-ray player, downloadable movies, etc. You can also make it talk to your PC over your network to stream media held there on your TV (no idea if 360 does that part too).

For games, the blu-ray thing can have an impact too... very content-heavy games won't fit on a single DVD. But this is more the exception.

The big plus for Xbox probably has to be the Kinect thing, kind of like next-generation wii. From a nerdy perspective, this is pretty interesting, for games you need to wait a while.

On raw gaming, I think the differences are relatively small. Xbox makes you pay for online play, but reputedly has better online experience.

I've a PS3 and been very happy with it, what what that's worth.

With the exception of blu-ray, the 360 also does all of that too.

I'd agree with that, the difference between the same game on both consoles is minor usually, some games have platform specific downloadable content though. As for playing online, in my experience, it's much easier/better with Xbox Live. As for the controllers, I personally prefer the Xbox controller, it just feels a lot more comfortable to me.

I'm just sick of reading your drivel. You're adding nothing to this thread (or forum for that matter) with your pointless posts, you're just being a tool.

                  I had a 360 but flogged it a while back to buy a PS3.

The reason was mainly for Blu-ray as i've got a Lovefilm account and so would rather have the HD version of a film seeing as its no extra cost. As a Blu-ray player, the PS3 is top notch, good quality, no hassle updating it and its whisper quiet.

Thing i didnt like about the 360 were the noise (was like a hoover) and reliability BUT as far as i know these are no longer issues with the more recent hardware? So would probably discount them as cons. Saying that though, my 360 was good and i'd own another happily, especially now that Kinect (sp?) thing is out.

Realistically I think you'd be happy with either as they are pretty much the same capability-wise but that Blu-ray made it a no-brainer for me (plus now LoveFilm do streaming for the PS3 which is another bonus).

The older models do have some reliability issues, the most notable being the "red ring of death". My 360 Elite died just over 2 years outside of warranty. But to their credit, Microsoft fixed it free of charge (including shipping) in less than a week and gave me 1 month's free subscription to Xbox live so no complaints there.

My Elite was very noisy, but I've since upgraded to the new model and that is just as quiet as my PS3 and also has wifi built in (which the previous models didn't, it was a £50+ add on )

I have an Xbox and to my surprise it never died, must have been lucky although I bought mine in 2008. To be honest I just use my PC now for games etc and I feel that's what the XBox is, just with a crippled OS. The good thinkg about a PC is you can upgrade parts of it etc. Just another option.
