    AVI conversion for iPod/PSP

I've had a dig around for a (preferably) single tool that will convert AVI files so that I can play the films on an iPod (via iTunes) and a PSP.

Anyone used a tool that will do this and can recommend something in order to save me hours downloading and trialling lots of rubbish. I've heard Handbrake may be able to do this, but bear in mind I'm a PC (Windows 7) user and still trying to get to grips with 21st century technology.

My favourite is Format Factory, but McAfee site advisor reckons there was a trojan in a file they downloaded off the site so I won't link to it. I run it in a VM just to be safe, but it tackles anything the other two can't do as well as MKV files.

I might be asking a stupid question here, but is there a file format I can convert to that will work on both iPods and the PSP, or do I have to convert each AVI twice?

I believe the PSP is supposed to support MP4, which is the same video container format as used by the iPod.
