    Formatting a 1Tb USB2 drive with FAT32?

I have just bought a 1Tb Toshiba USB2 external drive to back up my son's PS3 (and other stuff). However, when you go into the back up utility in the PS3 it just asks you to connect the back up device and then sits there doing nothing even though the USB2 drive is connected. From Google, I think this is because the drive is formatted in NTFS and the PS3 wants to see a FAT32 drive. Windows confirms that the drive is NTFS. I also find in Google that if you try to format a 1Tb drive to FAT32, the formatting fails. So, although I can right click and select "format" in Windows (XP) I haven't done so because I fear I might trash the brand new USB2 drive. Have I wasted my money, or is there a way to reformat the 1Tb drive to FAT32? Please note, I am an engineer and not a computer techy type person. Thanks!

Did a quick search using "How to format a large drive to Fat32 PS3" and the options seem to be:

    Use command prompt
    Use a product called swissknife
    Use a HP utility

They are all valid solutions as I have come across them before so take a look and see which one you feel comforatbel with.

Also, sorry, feeling a bit lazy hence no hyperlinks in my post.

Thanks, I did that. It seems like Swissknife only gives you a ~400Gb drive back when you format the 1000Gb drive to FAT32. I see other users reporting errors that the drive is too big for FAT32 file system when using the command prompt method. I haven't found the HP utility yet, I'll have a look. Thanks.

PS3 is now backing up nicely, only an hour and a bit to go.... Thanks.
