Where's hibernate gone in Windows7?

It's not on the shutdown mode list in W7 ultimate... is it gone or hidden?

There's a little arrow to the right of "Shutdown" on the start menu that displays a context menu, and it should be an option in there (it is on my system).

THat's what I said, it's not. I have Sleep, Shut Down, but no hibernate. I don't know exactly what Sleep is but I don't think it de-powers the system.

Will that add it to the shutdown menu, or as a separate item? I must be able to make it proper option. Why isn't it by default, do they not like hibernate for some reason? Maybe it has issues on some PCs so they leave it as a power option?

Separate item.

Create it on your desktop and then drag it across to your Start Menu.

Ah, by "shutdown mode list" I thought you might be referring to the "Turn Off Computer" prompt, rather than the context menu I described.

There are some suggestions that running the command "powercfg /hibernate on" from an elevated command prompt might do the trick.

Have you got hibernate enabled?

From XP memory it's in the settings for screensaver.

I have found that. But I always get:

You do not have permission to enable or disable the Hibernate feature.

I have admin rights and tried the CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER thing with no luck.


And I still haven't found why it's not enabled by default? What's special or exotic about it?

In other news, I have managed to actually set my keyboard sleep kep to enter hibernation which is good, but I still want it on the shutdown menu where it belongs!
