Where's hibernate gone in Windows7?

There's a little arrow to the right of "Shutdown" on the start menu that displays a context menu, and it should be an option in there (it is on my system).Where are we going? And what’s with this hand basket? -
Create a new shortcut on your Start Menu with the following target: C:\Windows\System32\shutdown.exe /hComment

THat's what I said, it's not. I have Sleep, Shut Down, but no hibernate. I don't know exactly what Sleep is but I don't think it de-powers the system.Originally posted by voodooflux View PostThere's a little arrow to the right of "Shutdown" on the start menu that displays a context menu, and it should be an option in there (it is on my system).Originally posted by MaryPoppinsI'd still not breastfeed a naziOriginally posted by vetranUrine is quite nourishingComment

Will that add it to the shutdown menu, or as a separate item? I must be able to make it proper option. Why isn't it by default, do they not like hibernate for some reason? Maybe it has issues on some PCs so they leave it as a power option?Originally posted by Clippy View PostCreate a new shortcut on your Start Menu with the following target: C:\Windows\System32\shutdown.exe /hOriginally posted by MaryPoppinsI'd still not breastfeed a naziOriginally posted by vetranUrine is quite nourishingComment

Create it on your desktop and then drag it across to your Start Menu.Comment

Ah, by "shutdown mode list" I thought you might be referring to the "Turn Off Computer" prompt, rather than the context menu I described.Originally posted by d000hg View PostTHat's what I said, it's not. There are some suggestions that running the command "powercfg /hibernate on" from an elevated command prompt might do the trick.Last edited by voodooflux; 7 May 2010, 07:57.Where are we going? And what’s with this hand basket?Comment

Have you got hibernate enabled?
From XP memory it's in the settings for screensaver.Gronda GrondaComment

It's amazing what you can find with search engines:
How To: Enable Or Disable Hibernate Option In Windows 7Will work inside IR35. Or for food.Comment

I have found that. But I always get:I have admin rights and tried the CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER thing with no luck. You do not have permission to enable or disable the Hibernate feature.
And I still haven't found why it's not enabled by default? What's special or exotic about it?
In other news, I have managed to actually set my keyboard sleep kep to enter hibernation which is good, but I still want it on the shutdown menu where it belongs!Originally posted by MaryPoppinsI'd still not breastfeed a naziOriginally posted by vetranUrine is quite nourishingComment
