USB + XP SP3 + moosed it up

Ist one to answer correctly gets use of one of my sock puppets
    Scenario
Laptop running fine Vodafone USB dongle check, Freecom DVB USB <check> USB mouse <check> all plugged in and doing their stuff

Bored in hotel room had a look in Hardware device Manager properties and saw some question marks against some components.

Went to laptop man site & downloaded chipset drivers and installed (double double checked they were right for the machine)

Ran the setup in the Zip file.... question marks dissapeared (also noticed that USB entry now contained 'enhanced' entries all tickity boo

    rebooted - scenario is now:

Vodafone dongle - works OK in any USB port
Freecom DVB dongle - shows OK in Hardware settings but will not process Freeview in any port
USB mouse - will not work in any port but will briefly work if I delete all entries under USB Serial Bus Controllers - reboot and works as XP detects hardware but stops working after one (not sure which) of the other USB devices loads

So I've fooked it up - could rebuild and live with the question marks in Hardware

    Other Info:
    System Restore is turned off
Can't seem to roll back driver in USB

    what does the panel think?
How fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't think

Turn System Restore to 'On' in future.

      I'll take DimPrawn, please...

I think the key point was 'correct answer' rather than glib

              Try the following link:

Display disconnected devices in the Device Manager

Delete / uninstall the drivers and try again.

Ohhh that's rather good - fixed the mousey not working issue but still struggling with Freecom - think it's the Vodafone dongle thingy adding shed loads of entries everywhere

I'll wipe it anyway this weekend

                Thanks for the tip

You could try DevCon and force it to do a rescan - it's fixed several USB driver issues I've had in the past.

If it ain't broke don't fix it.

                    Oops too late.

                    I'll have Henry Ford please.
