Looking to upgrade my system myself, these guys seem to have a good range and prices and they have a shop in Altrincham. They sell on e-bay too so sometime there are bargains to be had there. I have not tried them yet, but they have 100% positive feedback on ebay so I intend to use them in the next month or so.

Yes, I designed a system to track objects moving between various cameras fields of view on a project I called "Peter Rabbit". Currently in use by the Plod in various cities to follow miscreants around town.

Cameras: JVC, anything with a high resolution if you need evidence, low res if you just want to see.

Software: Motion detection is noddy stuff, quite easy to write. Clue 1: Just remember that lighting changes during the day. Tracking software is a little more tricky.
Insanity: repeating the same actions, but expecting different results.
threadeds website, and here's my blog.

Nice one DaveB, perhaps not quite what I had in mind, but something to take into consideration all the same...

Why don't you knock on her door and introduce yourself instead? Honestly.
