The BBC WS is also broadcast on Long Wave 198 khz between 01:00 and 05:00 GMT/BST . Even though SW is not broadcast to Europe you still should be able to pick it up if you have a sensitive enough receiver and a decent antenna. I have a pocket SW set and I dangle a long wire from the radio and then out of the hotel window when I am in Johnny Foreigner countries.
In the good ol’ days you could buy car radios in Germany with short wave. I found it very useful commuting to and from Munich in the 80’s. Some time I will get around to making an ad-on SW unit for the car.oxo with Sunday lunchComment
