Lotus notes id file - password ??

I have the use of a laptop from the client, during a recent rebuild tech support forgot to save my notes id file, so notes is kaput.

There were two options, apply for a new id through extremely tedious and slow channels or use an old id file which I have from a previous rebuild.

I would prefer to reuse the old file, but the password isn't one which I remember using, is there any (free) software which I can use to get the password ??

Now, this is from the dim and distance past when I used to admin Lotus Notes, there's a way to bypass the id file.

You need the client installed, and you edit the notes.ini file and change a setting which I can't remember! From memory it's a failry obvious one, so suggest u have a play...

I believe your domino admin can re-create your notes.id file.

Admin may not be able to recreate the file depends on settings used and version. Can be set so you can't. Its a security thing, if you have the id file and password you own that DB.

However most admins take a backup which may be usable (depends on what has happened since e.g. x509 cert) as you have found. Lotus did put a regular ID backup service in 5 or 6 (?) but very few companies enabled it.

Have you looked at Passware? Never managed to get the demo to work for me though :-)
