    sorry, red mist descended

    been messing around all day with this

    You originally posted saying share share share and then posted a "working for me jack" type of post which sent me cursing.

    Then 9 minutes later I realised just how cursing I was.

    you have exhonerated yourself sir.

      I was so excited I posted immediately I got it working with revising what I'd done so I could post what I eventually did, you just beat me to it.

      It was relatively painless with the AsteriskNow CD which does most of the install and config, couldn't be arsed compiling all the source.

      Still got a lot to learn about this and I'll continue to tweak over the coming days as I get it connected to the outside world.

      If you're gonna upload a wav file for hold music it's likely be bigger than the default allowed filesize in php.ini so I'd suggest editing it to a suitable filesize and restarting apache.

      You'll also need to setup NAT on your router to port forward port UDP 5060 and allow for this in any software firewall you're using including Windows own if you're using it. And the same for SMTP if you want email notification of voicemail etc.

      Keep us informed of your progress especially when you get around to connecting to the outside world, I'll of course do the same.

        Thanks CH

        I am failing big time and getting fed up (could you tell?)

        I have done everything you have and am getting precisely no-flipping-where

        I have the voip server account and number all paid for and ready to go. I just want to get my frigging soft phone registered with the muther-flippin pbx

        I found that walkthough for setting up the extension really informative, but it did not help

        Username = extension number (check)
        secrect = password (ffs) (check)
        domain = ip address of pbx (check)
        can ping ip address from softphone (check)
        try and connect (fail fail fail)

          Are you using X-Lite?

          For a quick test make;

          Username = 200
          secrect = 200
          Display Name = 200

          In FreePBX make sure to click on the apply configuration after hitting the submit button, a box will popup asking to confirm the reload. The apply config appears in a different colour in the blue line below the logo top left.

          In X-Lite Options click on Advanced and make sure all three QoS options are set to none.

          EDIT: Which error number are you getting from the softphone? 401 is good cos that just means login credentials, 408 or other is bad and you need to look at the basic server config or NAT / firewall.

            Yep did all of that. Still ****ed.

            408 request timeout.

            Doubt it's a firewall issue though both pbx and x-lite are running of the same frakin laptop.

              Checked, rechecked and treble checked the walkthroughs.
              Made sure the modules were up to date.
              Followed everything to the letter.

              Got precisely nowhere.

              IT can be quite heartbreaking.

                In FreePBX account settings for whatever extension you've setup make sure nat = yes

                In X-Lite try changing the domain to your external IP.

                Make sure that "Register with domain" is checked in your SIP account settings.

                This might be useful

                  Yip all of that too. Still nothing. Then out of inspiration I rebooted the virtual machine running asterisk. Bingo.

                  Thank you CH.

                      I have had no joy with this yet.
