Just installed a Netgear router last weekend, first time ever and no problems. Not once I found out by trial and error that some of the things BT said on their help pages were simply false.

Hadn't finished reading the instructions when one wireless card had already connected me automatically to the net via somebody else's router! (Not sure I really wanted that though)

I'm using a Zoom X5 with no problem at all. I had to turn it off and on once with a knocked a filter without realising it and broke the connection.

That's the only time I've turned it off in 4 months.

Ive been having problems with BT Broadband as well, has anyone had this problem, the BT Tech Support people are fecking crap

Basically every so often, I would say a couple of times a week, it appears I cant connect, I open IE and get the 'page cant be displayed' error. If I look at the route status icon it says 'Connected' but 0 bytes, Im using the BT voyager router. When I can get to a web site it still says 'connected' but bytes are 2782 or something rather than 0. I have tried pinging www.bbc.co.uk when it says 0 bytes and get nothing.

Its really starting to p*ss me off now BT are fecking useless. They did say that I should have my router at least 2 ft away from the computer and halogen lighting as this can cause magnetic issues causing the router to die. I had my route on top of my PC and 10 cm away from halogens lights so we sort that. Do magnetic issues cause the kind of probs Im having

Thing is it seems to random that I recon its the line.

I do over-night support so finding I cant login at 3am in the morning when I get called is a fecking nightmare, I end up having to call who is on secondary.

        Any advice greatly recieved.

          For what its worth....

I had a cronic issue with my modem and sperate adsl router being placed near other kit. Took me a while to realise, but as soon as I physically seprated the modem from the router and from the other kit all has been well.

So the answer is yes they can

Took two hours of screaming down the phone to BT for them to admit that the problem was their end and they used every excuse not to log a complain from "have you checked its plugged in" !*"&$*£&$*! to "check the router make"
Unbelievable?? Anyone else dealt with these lunatics.

Also, what are peoples opinion on working in callcentres and about the people working there?
Is it connecting to AOL but not resolving Internet sites??

Think this may be a DNS issue....A lot of the ISP's have useless slow DNS Servers.
Try setting a static DNS of 4.2.2.2 and see if that helps.......

Well that was the answer I got from BT's Indian helpdesk when I lost internet access yesterday. By the way, I've had no problem with Netgear's ADSL Wireless Firewall router.

Thanking you graciously Mr Claus....but I think you all miss the point here...The problem is not with the Router or The Helpdesk.....It's more than likely the setup of the Router to work with the ISP's crappy DNS Servers.

Once it is working it will more than likely provide years of pleasure
