    Malvolio, thanks for you input. I tried you suggestion but to no avail. I set it to max (5 mins) and then to min (30 secs) the same error occurred.

      Noddy, cant seem to get a telnet session going. Not sure if I am typing in the correct doman name for the session. I will continue reserching that line of thought though - all tips welcome! Thanks!!

          Frustrating!!

          Hmmm.....!! This is getting annoying!!

          Thanks for everyones help so far though - much appreciated. Just trying to keep an old PC going - maybe its better to invest in (another) new one.

          Just dont like to be defeated by technology!

                Check the ISP help pages, make sure you have the right one and ping it.

                If it responds to pings but the *initiation* of the telnet session times-out then it's likely tcp/udp port 25 is blocked by a firewall . It you get a response e.g. code 220 then their server is up and try some commands as per earlier. Or its using SMTP over SSL - port 465 i.e. "telnet mailhost.myisp.com 465"

                ELSE it's Outlook.

                For heavens sake don't bin an old machine just because of this.
