don't know much about the pros/cons myself -- but do know that the .co.uk and .com domains for my co (abbreviated name) are both taken -- although both don't seem to have much of a 'site' when you go to them -- infact one completely redirects to somewhere else !!

No unless your REALLY want your domain name to match your company name. The .uk.com will be generally mistyped as either .com or .co.uk meaning people end up going elsewhere

Better to do companyname-uk.com or companynameuk.com or companyname-it.co.uk

If you register billypilgrim.co.uk or billypilgrim.com then the domain you have registered is yours. OTOH billypilgrim.uk.com is not a domain name, it is a subdomain of the domain uk.com, and it belongs to the owners of that domain uk.com. They may well accept money from you to host that subdomain and let you access it, but that is a business deal between you and them, not a registration of a domain.

Trawled a few WHOIS sites but they come back with no info
